Objectives
The group will employ its research and monitoring activities to provide premises and advice for the development of integrated ecosystem-based management of our coastal and oceanic regions.
The concept of oceanography is used here in its widest sense, to include physical, chemical and biological aspects. Our aim is to map, understand and warn of oceanographic variability and changes in the ocean climate, as well as to understand and quantify the significance of these factors for the production, distribution and behaviour of marine organisms.
Composition
- 13 scientists
- 1 graduate student
- 1 consultant
- 1 senior engineer
The group forms part of the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, which enjoys the status of a national Centre of Outstanding Research. Most of the group’s scientists work for around 25% of their time at the Bjerknes Centre.
Two of our scientists are adjunct professors at the Universities of Bergen and Tromsø.
Clients
The group’s most important external users are the Ministry of Fisheries, the Ministry of Environment and bodies that report to it, the Research Council of Norway, the ICES and the EU.
Our most central internal customers will be the ecosystem-based research groups (Barents Sea, North Sea and Norwegian Sea and Coastal Zone).
We will offer relevant problems and basic research challenges to the universities.
We will stimulate and initiate national and international projects and be an attractive and active participant in such projects.
We will make our results available to the fishing and manufacturing industries, among others.
