Objectives
The principal objective of the group is to carry out research at an international level on the biology and stocks of crustaceans and molluscs, including research on the ocean ranching of crustaceans.
An important aim is to provide qualified advice to fisheries management authorities regarding sustainable harvesting and/or ranching of crustaceans and the effects on stocks of human activity, climate change or introduced species, while publishing our results in international journals and other fora.
Composition
The group consists of seven scientists and one graduate student; four women and four men.
Clients
Our clients are primarily the fisheries management authorities (Ministry of Fisheries and Directorate of Fisheries) and the fishing industry, but they also include other public authorities such as the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, the Ministry of Environment and the Directorate of Nature Research. We also expect to perform research for the Research Council of Norway, and other independent sources (EU and the Nordic Council of Ministers). The Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund, the Fishing Studies and Advisory Service Scheme, the Regional Committee for North Norway and Innovation Norway are other natural clients for our more industry-oriented projects.
Within the Institute, the group supplies results to all four advisory programmes.
