public_html is a defined as a directory instead of a symbolic link
Your web area is on another server than the rest of your files. You should not have to worry about this, but sometimes mistakes happen.
The most common mistake is if you by accident delete the symbolic link called public_html and create the directory public_html instead. This will not work properly.
To see if this is your proble, write ls -l public_html in a terminal where you're connected to login.stud.ntnu.no. You result should look like this:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root bin 28 Sep 28 05:25 public_html -> /web/folk/username/
This indicates that public_html is a symbolic link which 'points' to your area on the other machine.
If, on the other hand, it looks like this:
drwxr-x--x 17 username www 8192 Jan 11 13:15 public_html
public_html will be a directory instead of a symbolic link. The 'd' on the far left indicates this. To change this follow these steps:
- mv public_html public_html-old
- ln -s /web/folk/username/ public_html
After that you have to move your files from the newly renamed public_html-old to the new symbolic link public_html.
/web/folk/username/ does not exist
As mentioned earlier, your web area is located at /web/folk/username/. Sometimes mistakes happen when creating your user and as a result that area may not have been created. If you've tried all of the above, contact Orakeltjenesten and they will help you.
