On this page we collect ideas for an example system. We have the following requirements to the example:
- involve changing collaborations between a unlimited number of participants
- involve dependencies between collaborations
We thought about specifying a service to simplify cinema visits.
- find a cinema
- see which movies are on the programme
- buy tickets
- use the mobile phone as an entrance ticket
- +++
What about taking on an existing case? This way we don't have to use time to come up with requirements. CTAS (http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/%7Esu2/SCESM/CS/) is one existing case study, used in this workshop (http://tele.informatik.uni-freiburg.de/dagstuhl03371/CaseStudy.html)

- Hmm ja seems very interesting. On the first sight I thought it was "too object-oriented" but maybe we can use it. Remember that we are propably not so much interested in designing the state machines but rather the more abstract interactions. -- Frank

Let us not trash the cinema scenario just yet.
Based on the ideas on Frank.
Multiple tickets may be bought concurrently. Some kind of coordination is needed to avoid double booking.
The booking involves multiple phases. First the movie and cinema must be found. Then the system must find seats available. These seats can have the status “free”, “temporarily reserved” and “paid”. The system must ensure that the seats move from “temporarily reserved” to “paid” once a financial transaction has taken place. No seat can stay “temporarily reserved” forever, but must so for a limited amount of time to avoid double booking while the customer decides where to be seated.
(To make the scenario a little bit more “funny”) The coordination may be further complicated by innovation of automatic background check of each of the cinema visitors. This is in [...] so an external database must confirm that each of the visitors are not [...] before the booking can be completed. This is check is performed concurrently while the reservation is made. If the background check fails the “temporarily reserved” seats becomes “free”.
The last step in making a reservation is to accept that incoming calls to your mobile phone will be rerouted to your voice mail for the duration of the movie.
Let’s add some more complexity. Entrance may be allowed by presenting a unique RFID tag embedded in the mobile phone. A mechanism allows for these tickets to be freely transferred between the mobile phones or other personal items having an RFID tag (e.g. credit card).
