The Rokkan Centre is an inter-disciplinary social science research centre. Its research is financed primarily by the Norwegian Research Council. In 2004 its budget amounts to NOK 50 million, and its personnel resources include some 50 researcher work-years. An important aim for the centre is to strengthen and increase social science research in Bergen. It is involved in many forms of academic cooperation with other institutes and faculties at the University of Bergen, and is constantly developing new collaborations. Projects at the Rokkan Centre generally have affiliations to one or more departments, often at the Faculty of Social Science, but also at the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Law.
The Rokkan Centre also administrates externally financed research at institutes and faculties at the University of Bergen. The Centre considers it an important responsi-bility to provide excellent adminis-trative services to projects and programmes. In our view, good research presupposes a service-oriented administration with a broad knowledge of the Centre's core activities.
The Rokkan Centre is a department of UNIFOB AS, a research company affiliated to the University of Bergen.
Research director at the Rokkan Centre is Kari Tove Elvbakken. Kari Fuglseth is Head of Administration. The Rokkan Centre has a board led by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Bergen.
