Department of materials science and engineering (DMSE) is the leading materials science and engineering institution in Norway. DMSE covers a wide range of fields within physical and process metallurgy with focus on light metals and silicon including solargrade silicon, corrosion, electrochemical energy technology, inorganic materials, ceramics and nano-structured materials. About 15 PhD candidates are graduating from DMSE annually.

DMSE has several MSc programs where up to about 60 candidates are graduating annually. The programs cover MSC degree in materials science and engineering, materials chemistry and electrochemistry and an international program in Light metal production.
