The Rector is head of the academic and administrative activities at NTNU and is also Secretary to the Board of NTNU.
The Rector reports to the Board and is responsible for communication between the Board and the outside world as a result of decisions made by the Board.
The Rector is responsible for financial matters at NTNU and is responsible for keeping the Board continuously updated on fiscal and budgetary issues.

Torbjørn Digernes
NTNU’s Rector was born in 1947 in Ørsta, Norway. He
took his master’s degree (sivilingeniør) in applied
physics at the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) in 1972 and
was awarded his doctorate at the Department of Computer Science,
NTH ten years later. His thesis was an economic analysis of the
design and operation of fishing vessels.
In 1984, he was appointed
adjunct professor at NTH and in 1998 became professor of marine
system design at NTNU. He was Dean of the Faculty of Marine Technology
from 1999 to 2001, and after a reorganization in 2002, was elected
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology.
Professor Digernes has held a range of board positions at NTNU and outside. He became Rector of NTNU on 1 August 2005.

Astrid Lægreid

Astrid Lægreid, Pro-Rector Research and Innovation
Lægreid is a professor of functional genome research at the Faculty of Medicine (DMF). She specializes in biology/molecular biology. She has worked at NTNU since 1988, initially as a research fellow and later as a researcher and associate professor before accepting the position as professor in 2002.
Lægreid gained managerial experience during her period as Vice-Dean at DMF, and she has been a member of several boards at NTNU since her arrival. She has served on a number of committees and panels, also outside her own field and faculty, and partly at national level.

Julie Feilberg
|
Julie Feilberg, Pro-Rector Education and Quality Learning
Feilberg has worked as an associate professor at the Department of Applied Linguistics since 1990. She has been Pro-Rector at NTNU since 2002.
Feilberg was previously Head of the Department of Applied Linguistics and Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Arts. In addition, she has chaired and served on several national boards, committees and councils, and has for many years participated in larger research works dealing with principal aspects of NTNU’s activities.
