SNF (Centre for Applied Research at NHH) is part of the NHH-Group and dedicated to the task of initiating and undertaking contract research.
With roots going back to 1973 and a basis in the leading universities in Norway, SNF (short for Samfunns- og næringslivsforskning in Norwegian) is a national institution for applied research in economics and business administration, with strong connections to other research institutions in both Norway and abroad.
The institute undertakes contract research and research based studies for central decision makers in private and public sectors, both in Norway and overseas, and shapes the basis for decision making in industry and government through the development and dissemination of tailored, research-based knowledge on business, industry and society.
SNF is owned by the NHH – Norwegian School of economics and the Foundation SNF, and has an annual turnover of approximately NOK 65 mill.
SNF is co-owner of the Center for Economic Research AS (SØF) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).
The research is conducted by SNF’s own staff and in close collaboration with NHH and the Institute of Economics at the University of Bergen (UiB).
The research staff of SNF consists of 15-20 full time researchers. In addition, we engage more than 100 researchers from the scientific staff at NHH and the University of Bergen, and also from other research institutions in Norway and abroad. This means that SNF has a broad competence base at its disposal, of which almost all have a PhDs or equivalent academic qualifications.
As well as producing customised research for clients, SNF-staff publish their research in leading international journals. Altogether SNF conducts roughly 45 man years of research on an annual basis.
The research activities are organised in ten thematic research programs:
