Seminar on historical monetary statistics, 11 June 2004
Both interest rates and inflation are currently low in Norway. Is this unusual? Studies of historical time series may provide an indication of what is normal. For many years, Norges Bank has cooperated with academic environments to construct long time series for monetary variables (inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, house prices, etc.) Most time series go back to the early 1800s, although inflation figures go back as far as 1516.
On Friday, 11 June, Norges Bank is arranging a seminar in connection with the publication of Norges Bank's Occasional Papers no. 35 on historical monetary statistics. The speakers include Jan F. Qvigstad, Director, Norges Bank, Forrest Capie, professor at City University (London), Pierre Siklos, professor at Wilfred Laurier University (Canada) and Andrew Filardo, Bank for International Settlements (Basel).
