Underlying data:
The underlying data for the report are based on a sample survey including 24 commercial and savings banks. These banks accounted for 87% of all commercial and savings banks’ market shares in Norway, measured by sight deposits as of 30. November 2005. The statistics provide average prices for commercial and savings banks as two bank groups up to 2005. From 2005, average prices will cover all banks in the survey due to the merger of DnB (largest commercial bank) and Gjensidige NOR (largest savings bank) in January 2004.
Average prices are based on a calculation of the average for commercial and savings banks as groups and then the average for all banks. The two bank groups’ average prices are calculated by weighting the price per transaction in each bank according to the bank’s share of sight deposits. Average prices for all banks in the survey are calculated by weighting the two bank groups’ average prices by their real market shares for payment services, measured by the number of transactions.
Average prices for domestic payment services are calculated on the basis of banks’ standard prices according to price lists, and apply only to payment transactions, receipts and cash withdrawals. The statistics do not reflect additional costs such as establishment fees, annual charges for using payment cards and fixed costs associated with the use of invoicing services (OCR, direct debit) and electronic payment services (Internet – private customers, payments by telephone, direct remittance and payments using a company terminal). Nor are discounts for account groups, customer groups and/or individual customers taken into account in the statistics.
The prices for cross border payments refer to transfers of a fixed amount within or outside the EEA area (see tables), with or without BIC and IBAN, by a paper based or electronic transfer order and by STP or NSTP payments. Prices do not include additional costs for cash payments, third country currency, confirmations or costs that the payer must cover for the payee.
The statistics are updated annually on our website.
Additional information about prices:
Domestic payment services:
Prices for domestic payment services apply as at 31.12.90, 1.1.92, 1.1.93, 1.1.94, 31.12.94 and as at the years 1.1.1996 – 2006. The fees charged to payees in connection with the use of OCR file, OCR return and direct debits are additional to the fees charged to payers in connection with using these services.
Mail giros:
Average prices for mail giros refer to each giro form submitted. All banks in the survey charge postage and this cost is not reflected in the tables.
Internet – private customers:
Prices refer to payments with CID.
Direct debits (Avtalegiro):
Fees charged to payees in connection with the use of direct debits refer to unnotified direct debits. From 1.1.2003, fees charged to payers are also presented.
Company terminal giro:
Average prices for company terminal giro as at 1 January 2006 only apply to some of the banks in the survey as a number of banks shut down their company terminal giro solutions during 2005 and began offering business payment solutions over the Internet.
Cross-border payments:
Prices up to 1 January 2004 refer to payments without BIC and IBAN and cover all currencies, as none of the Norwegian banks’ earlier prices for cross-border payments depended on currency. As a result of the incorporation of Regulation (EU) 2560/2001 into Norwegian law on 1 January 2005, figures as of 1 January 2004 refer to payments (table 3 and 4) and payments received (table 6) with and without BIC and IBAN dependent on currency. Prices in Table 6 for payments received in currencies other than EUR do not include prices for payments received in SEK.
