Historical exchange rates
In the archives of Norges Bank there are copies of records received from the Oslo Stock Exchange containing exchange rates for pound sterling dating back to 1819. We have used this material to estimate annual average exchanges for sterling against NOK.
Corresponding exchange rates for DEM, FRF and SEK going back to 1819 were then calculated, partly on the basis of the Stock Exchange records and partly on the basis of exchange rate tables worked out by Sveriges riksbank during the inter-war years.
Exchange rate data on USD is only available back to 1859.
