Official opening of office in Shanghai
Governor, Svein Gjedrem hosted the Inaugural Ceremony of NBIM’s new Shanghai office on Tuesday evening (local time). Norges Bank/NBIM has established a representative office in Shanghai to extend its presence in Asia and enable NBIM to operate in all time zones on one common IT platform.
The new office will carry out financial analysis, portfolio management and execute investment decisions. At the present the staff includes seven people, with the figure expected to grow to 15 next year.
“Norges Bank maintains a global and long-term perspective. We already have offices in London and New York and our goal has been to further develop our strategies in the Asia region by establishing a local presence. China is one of the largest economies in the world and the key driver for the whole Asia region. China’s share of the world economy has more than doubled over the last ten years. We believe this development will continue in the decade ahead of us. We also believe that Shanghai is going to become a key financial centre in Asia,” Gjedrem said in his opening speech.
