Kristin Clemet and Mogens Lykketoft will hold the opening lectures at the kick-off conference for NCoE: REASSESS. During two whole days in Oslo prominent international researchers are put to the task of scrutinizing the Nordic Welfare Model.
The Nordic Welfare Model prospers despite predictions of its demise. Still, we know little about what the future will bring. Has the Nordic Welfare Model the ability to renew itself under changing external conditions? A new Nordic Centre of Excellence in Welfare Research financed by NordForsk will investigate and critically discuss this question.
Through the Centre, Reassessing the Nordic Welfare Model, some of the most distinguished Nordic social science researchers will take a closer look at the challenges facing the the Nordic welfare states: ageing populations, pension reforms, globalisation and competitiveness, a multicultural society, social exclusion and poverty.
The kick-off conference for the Centre will take place 24-25 October in Oslo, and Kristin Clemet (Civita) and Mogens Lykketoft (MP, Denmark) hold the opening lectures.
Professor Ann Shola Orloff (Northwestern University) is invited from the USA. Orloff is greatly acknowledged for her research on welfare and gender and will talk about: Gender, Employment and Social Policy - US-Scandinavian Differences.
Other lecturers include: Professor Jørgen Goul Andersen (Aalborg Univ., Denmark), Professor Gunhild Hagestad (Agder Univ. & NOVA, Norway), Professor Veli-Matti Ritakallio (Univ. of Turku, Finland) and Prof. Eskil Wadensjö (Univ. of Stockholm, Sweden).
Over 100 participants will follow the conference.
