My current research is focused on modeling, assessment and integration of the material and energy flows in an Eco-industrial Park (EIP) with a modeling-based method. EIP is a giant industrial symbiosis system with complicated connection networks of material and energy flows. The proposed models and methodology will pay much attention to the symbiosis characteristics of EIP based on the ecological sciences and beyond the traditional process system integration methods, such as process synthesis, energy integration, waste minimization and so on. This is the challenge faced both by ecologist and experts of system engineering. Taking Mongstad Eco-industrial Park as a study case, the method of Eco-industrial System Integration (ESP) and early design procedure of Eco-industrial Park will be established and improved.
