Center for Integrated Operations in the Petroleum Industry

IO Center Brochure - pdf

THE CENTER for Integrated Operations in the Petroleum Industry (IO Center) conducts research, innovation and education within the IO field, to promote accelerated production, increased oil recovery, reduced operating costs and enhanced safety and environmental standards.

The center was established by NTNU, SINTEF and IFE, in collaboration with major international oil companies and suppliers, and cooperates with Stanford, Carnegie-Mellon, Delft and Kyoto universities. [ see organization for details ]

NTNU, SINTEF and IFE have a significant project portfolio already of ongoing research within Integrated Operations of about NOK 70 millions annually, ranging from fundamental research to contract projects. These projects will continue to be an important R&D platform for the IO Center.

IO07 Conference Oct 2-3

IO Conference a Success
| NOV 07 | The feedback we have received, both formally and informally, suggests that the IO 07 Conference in Trondheim (held 2.-3. Oct., 2007) was a success. At the IO center we are very pleased with the number of attendees (247), and the positive feedback on the conference content and discussions. All presentations are available on www.ioconf.no and we also refer to a review of the IO conference in the Digital Energy Journal (pdf, Issue 9, pg 20) .

Better resource utilization

Computer Simulation

29 JAN 07 | Better resource utilization is a hot topic in the petroleum industry. Research and investments in Integrated Operations (IO) could generate billions for society. The Norwegian Oil Industry Association has estimated that the profit from the rapid introduction of IO on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) can be NOK 250 billion in the period 2005-2015. The new Centre for Research-based Innovation will enable NTNU, SINTEF and IFE Halden to make important contributions towards achieving this profit. The greatest potential lies in increasing the recovery rates from oil fields and rationalizing operations.

Gas Technology Centre The Gas Technology Center unifies the combined efforts of NTNU and SINTEF. The Center was established in 2003 and is the largest center for gas technology research and education in Norway. Approximately 300 people (researchers, professors, Post Docs and PhD students) are involved in natural gas-related R&D. The Center focuses on exploring the synergism of multidisciplinary research into the value chain, from the source to the end-user. [ GTC website ]
