We are surrounded with materials as a natural ingredient of our everyday life. Do you know that condensed matter physics is an important incubator for technological development in many different fields? Examples can be nanotechnology, renewable energy production, microelectronics¿ Nanoscale studies are necessary to understand materials’ macroscopic behaviour.
The master’s programme consists of one compulsory and seven elective courses comprising a total of 60 credits and a thesis of 60 credits. 60 credits indicate the normal workload for a full-time student for one academic year. The language of instruction is English. Assignments are solved in research groups at the Department of Physics.
You can choose a specialization within condensed matter physics which is experimental or theoretical. It is also possible to base your specialization on other courses with significant relevance such as energy and environmental physics or optics.
The experimental activities offer a variety of experimental techniques for studying physical properties of condensed matter and surfaces, including magnetic materials; polymer semiconductors; confined systems; ceramic materials; aluminium alloys; complex materials and liquids; granular media; biopolymers; as well as macro- and organic molecules. Applied activities exist within solar energy - and environmental physics, and in developing optical measurement techniques. Theoretical studies are performed in different subjects such as soft condensed matter physics; superconductors and other strongly correlated systems; semiconductor structures and mesoscopic physics; and statistical physics."
