Please note that from autumn 2008 this programme is substituted by the BSc programme in Mathematical Sciences.
Do you enjoy mathematics? Many of our students came to us simply because they they like the subject, and because they would like to gain a better understanding of what is behind the mathematics they learned in high school. Most of them have occasionally asked themselves: “Why?”
Have you considered how fundamental mathematics and statistics are? These two subjects are useful in almost any study. Even subjects as different as physics and the social sciences require mathematics and statistics. Mathematics and statistics are important to all of us, which is why the subjects are introduced already in primary school.
By choosing one of our programmes of study you will face multiple opportunities. On completion of your Bachelor’s degree you may continue with the Master’s programme. You will also have a wide spectrum of work opportunities, depending on the subjects of your choice. As mathematics and statistics are fundamental in so many fields, choosing a Bachelor’s programme at NTNU may be an excellent choice. The first year you take mathematics alone or in combination with for instance physics and information science.
We offer a 3-year Bachelor’s programme in mathematical sciences. This programme provides a thorough introduction to basic mathematical and statistical topics, emphasizing understanding and in-depth studies. You will also have the opportunity to study subjects other than mathematics and statistics, and you may choose from NTNU's full range of subjects – whether you want more natural sciences, social sciences or languages.
When choosing one of our Bachelor’s programmes, you choose one of four fields of study: Mathematics, Mathematics with Information Science, Statistics and Stochastic Modelling, or Biomathematics. Each field of study offers the opportunity to continue with a 2-year Master’s degree programme.
The Mathematical Sciences programme is intended for Scandinavian-speaking students. For further information, please see the Norwegian website http://www.ntnu.no/studier/bmat/.
