Modern physics includes a wide range of interesting sub-disciplines. In this two-year long Master's degree programme in Physics, you will have the opportunity to specialize within one of these areas. You may choose your area of specialization yourself, among the research activities represented at the Department of Physics. At large, we can split them into the following fields of study:
The Master's degree programme consists of courses amounting to a total of 60 ECTS credits, and a larger project work within your chosen research area (your master's thesis) amounting to another 60 ECTS credits. This projects gives you practice in independent work with physics at a high level.
One of the courses is interdisciplinary, Experts in Team, which is taken in your second semester and is common for all scientific subject students. In addition to this course, you can take seven elective courses (including a self-study in your final semester). These courses should be chosen in consultation with your academic supervisor, to make sure they fit the field you have chosen for your thesis.
As you may understand, this means that you already in your first semester choose your area of specialization, find a supervisor, and together you plan which courses you should take and the work on your thesis, which is spread over all four semesters.
You choice of courses as regards any stays abroad should be made in consultation with your academic supervisor. Stays abroad are most easily fitted into the second semester.
