Doctoral Project
The preliminary title of the PhD project is A Change of Heart – The Morality of Forgiveness. The thesis is basically concerned with the moral justifiability of forgiveness. The underlying normative question to be discussed is the following one: Should we forgive those who wrong us and if so, why? The project is primarily conducted within the framework of moral philosophy, but it aims to connect to other academic fields of research as well, including social philosophy, political science, history, and religious studies.
Teaching
SUM 4014 Masters Course in Environmental Philosophy and Ethics. The course deals with the historical, cross-cultural studies of the relationship between humanity and nature and the exploration of influential models of environmental philosophies. Relevant issues that are discussed include the relation between normative and descriptive discourses. It also addresses such questions as: Is concern for reducing the suffering of animals compatible with an ethic of non-interference in wild nature? What duties are owed to future generations, if any? What kind of principles should we adopt for regulating technologies whose risks are unknown and who’s potential for serious damage is real?
