We study the molecular structures and processes in cells and how they influence the development of living organisms. Molecular biological research relies on competences in diverse areas and researchers at MBI have expertise in biochemistry, cell biology, structural biology, developmental biology, biophysics, bioinformatics, proteomics and genetics.
Much of our research is inspired by challenges from biomedicine and biotechnology and method development in these fields. We conduct basic research on cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic diseases, parasite-host interaction and protein engineering.
Study molecular biology?
We offer a two-year Master Programme in Molecular Biology, taught fully in English. The department also offer a three-year Bachelor Programme in Norwegian. Most of our courses are taught in English.
