Deadlines
The Master's Degree Programme in Psychology is a two-year programme of full-time study, and it is not possible to apply to do the programme part-time.
All students will normally follow the deadlines written in bold below. Students must contact the Department if anything occurs that makes it difficult to keep to the deadlines. As shown in the table below, students failing to meet the standard deadline will be able to submit their literature review and/or their thesis in the following semester by the specified deadlines.
Please note that, apart from cases where a student has been granted an extension by the administration, delaying submission of your thesis ends your right to supervision.

Literature review
- The handing-in of the literature review is an administrative matter, and it is only the administration (administrative coordinator) who can give you an extension.
- An extension for the literature review can mainly be given under the following circumstances:
1. You have applied within two weeks of the deadline to hand in the literature review later because of academic reasons, and your application has been approved by the programme.
OR
2. You have been ill and you have a doctor's note.
- The literature review is to be handed in to the supervisor, together with the standard “plagiarism” statement
- The supervisor will notify the result to the administration, as well as back to the student.
- The literature review must be approved before you can submit your thesis.
Master thesis
If you are not able to submit your thesis by the date set you have to submit your thesis the next semester. The only exception is if you have been given an extended deadline due to documented illness.
- You must hand in 5 copies of your thesis together with one standard “plagiarism” statement The thesis will then be sent to the commision (one external and one internal censor).
- All students have to submit an electronic abstract of their thesis via DUO. DUO (Digital Publishing at the University of Oslo) is a service for author support, submitting and archiving electronic documents written at UiO.
- Before print: ISBN number and requisition:
When your thesis is ready for print you must contact Trine Kongsvold who will give you an ISBN number for your thesis. This number has to be written on the front page of your thesis. You will at the same time get a requisition to the printing-office (Reprosentralen) for 10 copies that the department pays for. 5 of the copies are for the department and 5 are for you. If two students write a thesis together they should have one ISBN number and a requisition for 15 copies.
The printing-office will always try to deliver your copies as soon as possible, but they recommend that master students hand in their thesis for print 4 days before the thesis must be handed in to the department.
Master thesis and student's rights concerning second submittal of thesis
- A master thesis that has been given fail (F) as a result can be submitted only once in an altered form. The Master's Degree Programme will set a new date for submittal (§ 5.6.1 in Forskrift om studier og eksamener ved Universitetet i Oslo)
- A master thesis that has been given a pass (A - E) as a result cannot be submitted again in an altered form (§ 5.6.2 in Forskrift om studier og eksamener ved Universitetet i Oslo).
