VPN for Windows VISTA

VPN is used for granting access to the wireless network at UMB, and to the internal resources (i.e. internal websites, BIBSYS, home area) when you're connected to a network outside UMB.

Guide to set up a VPN connection for Windows VISTA

1. Go to Start-> Settings-> control Panel-> Network and Internet-> Network and Sharing Center. On the left side, click on "set up a connection or network", and you will get a picture similar to the example underneath. In this box, select "Connect to a workplace". Click "Next"

2. Click on "Use my Internet connection (VPN)"

3. Click on "I'll set up an Internet connection later"

4. To access the wireless network on UMB type in "10.0.180.1" in the field marked "Internet address". In the field marked "Destination name", type in "UMB Campus", and click "Next"

to reach UMB internal resources, like i.e. BIBSYS, type in "student.vpn.umb.no" in the field marked "Internet address", and click "Next"

5. In the field marked "User name", type in your username (the same you use in email or ClassFronter).
In the "Password" field, type in your password. If the address typed in earlier is 10.0.180.1, you need to use your Sone 2 password. If you typed in student.vpn.umb.no earlier, you must use your Sone 3 password.
IMPORTANT: The password is CASE SENSITIVE!
Check the box "Remember this password", so you don't have type it in every time you log on.

6. The connection is now finished!
