The aim of the Norwegian Arabidopsis Research Center (NARC) is to establish a solid basis for basic plant molecular biology, applied plant research and plant breeding in Norway. NARC is built on existing competence in Arabidopsis research at NTNU (Prof. Atle Bones), UiO (Prof. Reidunn Aalen) and UMB (Prof. Odd-Arne Rognli).
The new facilities at SKP (Senter for Klimaregulert Planteforskning) is a cooperative project between NARC and SKP. It is now possible for the users to grow transgenic plants in chambers where specific needs regarding temperature, daylength, humidity, ligth quality and quantity can be regulated individually.
The yearly national Arabidopsis meeting will be held in Trondheim on the 30th of November 2006.
Norwegian Arabidopsis populationsDuring the summer 2003 we collected seeds from 8-20 individual plants from each of 40 natural population of Arabidopsis thaliana. Our collecting efforts were addressed to Northern Norway and high-altitude locations in Southern Norway, because very few ecotypes from the extreme northern natural distribution have been investigated earlier.
