Land use and ecosystem function in boreal forests
Project introduction - Land Use and Ecosystem Functions
Project WEB-responsible
The purpose of the project is to increase our understanding of ecological linkages and to provide background knowledge for designing policies for improved management of biological diversity in forests. This objective is to be achieved by combining results from trials and experiments with existing knowledge and models. The project originates from a joint venture by the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Department of Economics and Resource Management, both at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.
Project introduction - Land Use and Ecosystem Functions |
The project aims at evaluation biological diversity based on the functions of the ecosystem, thereof the name of the project. Through own experiments and model studies the project seeks to generate new knowledge on the impacts of acreage usage in forest, including various management regimes, on species composition, forest ecosystem resilience, and the quality of the services forests provide.
Main partners come from the University of Bergen, University of Minnesota, University of Liverpool, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, and the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research.
The project started in the summer of 2003, and runs through the spring of 2008. It is therefore a bit early for own major results to be available. New results will be posted on these pages as they emerge.
