Large research projects
IHA
Research at IHA covers both basic and applied research in the fields of animal husbandry and aquaculture. The department wishes to strengthen basic research within biological production systems, and to enhance in-house, national and international interdisciplinary research cooperation.
 Large research projects |
The department has a total of 112 ongoing projects. In the past few years, IHA has developed cutting-edge expertise in specific areas, e.g., by establishing two large research centres.
APC – A Centre of Excellence
The Aquaculture Protein Centre is a Centre of Excellence, consisting of scientists from the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, UMB and Akvaforsk.
CIGENE
The Centre for Integrative Genetics was formally established in 2003 and has its main location at campus Aas 30 km southeast of Oslo. By its multi-disciplinary profile and its multi-institutional support it illustrates the current transition of biological research and the breakdown of the classical distinctions between production biology, evolutionary biology and biomedical research.
Feed grain project
This 5-year project’s main goal is to improve food safety and increase the efficiency of domestic feed concentrate production by adapting cereal production to the needs of our traditional livestock – and thus also reduce the risk of feed grain overproduction. The project is divided into two parts:
- Alternative protein-rich feed ingredients
- Market-adapted production and optimal utilisation of Norwegian feed grain
