How to borrow and order materials

Publications not available in our own collection, are obtained from other libraries. With a patron ID from a BIBSYS library you may order loans or copies of documents.

Borrowing materials at UBMB
Faculty, staff and students at UMB and affiliated institutions have to search the library’s available catalogues, and find materials on their own. The loan period is normally 4 weeks, journals 1 week. Remember to take along your library card. Any material being stored at one of UMB’s departments has to be borrowed at the department directly. For more information about borrowing, please refer to our circulation policies.

Journals at the main library
The storage rooms for journals are closed. Library users must therefore place orders for journals/serials at the circulation desk. You can also use the BIBSYS database to order journals/serials electronically. We can quickly notify you by e-mail when the journals/serials you ordered are available.
The book stacks are open, and users have to find books on their own.

Ordering materials not held at UBMB
Loans and copies of materials from libraries in the Nordic countries are free of charge for students working on term papers or final theses. Please refer to the price list for details. If you find publications in a BIBSYS search that aren’t available at UMB, your order will be relayed electronically via BIBSYS. This service requires that you have a BIBSYS library card. We will send your order to the appropriate library.

How to order materials via BIBSYS
After finding a reference in the BIBSYS database, you usually have the possibility to order the loan and/or copies of articles, depending on whether it refers to a book, journals, proceedings, etc. If you wish to order an article, you have to search for the book or journal in which the article is published.

Ordering of journal articles via ISI and other databases
Articles found in ISI Web of Science can be ordered directly via BIBSYS X. The same applies to other article databases that UMB subscribes to.

Library card
With a patron ID from a BIBSYS Library or a Norwegian National Library Number it is possible to order loans or copies of documents. For students their ID card works as a library card. Members of staff use their staff ID card. The library number is written on the back of the card.
