Trace elements in grazing domestic ruminants
Ane Skjelfjord
The main objective of the project is to obtain an updated and comprehensive knowledge on the status of important essential trace elements in grazing domestic ruminants in Norway, and the factors that determine this status
Project leader at NVH - contract partner with Norwegian Research Council: Tore Sivertsen
Project leader at IHA: Torstein Garmo
The knowledge acquired shall make it possible to give improved and relevant advice on trace element supplementation to Norwegian cattle (in particular beef cattle) and sheep in the different regions of Norway, with an aim to improve both productivity and health of the animals.
The project is also designed to improve our knowledge on the present uptake of a range of non-essential elements, including important pollution elements, in domestic ruminants at pasture. This will be a scientific spin-off of the project, as modern analytical techniques give us an opportunity to obtain this information with very small additional costs.
