TITLE: Impact of moisture addition and retention time during conditioning on physical quality of feed pellets.
SUPERVISOR(S): Birger Svihus and Egil Prestløkken
Basic aim of this research is to measure physical quality of feed pellets made of cereals with high digestibility and starch value (maze), and comparison with the same formulated feed based on lower digestibility and starch value cereals (wheat), processed with different retention times and water-steam addition. Long term conditioning and water addition could have an effect on better gelatinization process, thus better physical properties of feed pellets. Gelatinization of starch during pelleting process depends on type of the cereal and applied conditions during the feed manufacturing process. We assumed that long term conditioning and high water addition could increase gelatinization and thus increase the physical properties of feed pellets.
Experiment has been done in Centre for Feed Technology; ForTek experimental feed plant in Animal Department, Agricultural University of Norway (NLH).
