NKJ-prosjekt nr. 114
The overall aim is to do research necessary for the implementation of a joint genetic evaluation and breeding program for dairy cattle in four Nordic countries. More specifically our goals are to:
1. Study the effect of trait harmonisation on genetic correlations across countries.
2. Study the problems associated with using test-day and 305-day information simultaneously across countries.
3. Develop and compare single or multiple-trait models that can be used across countries, handling multi-breed herds, heterogeneous variances, and genotype by environment interaction.
4. Study the effect of connectedness on estimation of breeding values and genetic parameters, and optimise the connectedness within a Nordic breeding program.
5. Calculate economic weights for production and non-production traits in the four countries.
