Help using this site
BCCS Portal
This site is the project portal used by BCCS. We use it for file sharing, collaboration and project monitoring. This is a semi-closed site, which means that to access most of the resources you need to have an account with us. All employees and students are entitled to an account. Some external users who we work with are also given accounts. Projects are organised into groups and group spaces. Most project areas are protected so that only group members can access and modify the contents of their group space.Within a group space you can create folders, files, documents, blogs and so on, and with in a group space the concept of 'publish' on a document means that you make a document available to be read by others in your group. This partially closed site has the following behaviour:
- Objects 'published' will be visible by non-members (ie anonymous visitors to the portal)
- Objects 'visible' will only be visible by group members
- A Blog can be 'visible' or 'published', and follows the above rules. BlogEntry (an individual entry inside a Blog) can be 'published' or 'private'. Published BlogEntry will follow the visibility rules of it's containing Blog, so if the Blog is published, a published BlogEntry will be externally visible. If the Blog is only 'visible' then a published BlogEntry is visible to all members of the group.
- If you have an entry that is visible to the outside world, you may need to send a link or make a link elsewhere, since it may not be possible for an anonymous user to navigate there using the navigation panels on the portal.
The following sections are taken from the Plone documentation and say a little about how to use plone sites in general.
Quick Start
Some useful hints if you are new to Plone:
- Access key + 4 focuses the LiveSearch field - you can start writing your search terms straight away, and have all your information at your fingertips without leaving the keyboard. For information about how to use access keys in your particular browser, see the accessibility page.
- Plone will automatically be displayed in the language your browser asks for. If you need more control over languages in Plone, install Plone Language Tool from the site setup. If you need to maintain your content in multiple languages, download LinguaPlone.
- Workflow states are color coded if you are logged in, so it is easy to keep track of content security and visibility. Try the site map with color coding for a visual security inspection of your site!
- If you prefer working with pure HTML, Structured Text or ReStructured Text markup instead of using a visual editor, you can disable it in your preferences.
