The workstations at the students laboratory have software installed making it possible to run parallel computations (through the use of MPI inter-process communication) as if the workstations were one huge and expensive supercomputer. The performance is not in line of NTNU's 512 processor SGI Origin 3800, but for some application it is comparable, and it is free of use.
The source code used on our cluster and the supercomputer can be identical, making the cluster an ideal testbed for applications and possibly smaller computations. Using our cluster is free, as long as you have an account at our lab.
