Norwegian Language Requirements
Norwegian is the official language of instruction at institutions of higher education in Norway. To attend regular courses and degree programmes, a good command of the Norwegian language is necessary.
The minimum requirement for attending regular degree programmes where Norwegian is the language of instruction is either · Norwegian level III with grade 3.0 or better (please note that the grade 2.5 or better is required for some study programmes at some institutions) from the Norwegian language programmes for foreign students offered by the universities, or one of the universities colleges, e.g. in Volda and Telemark, or · Norwegian level III, with grade 3.0 or better (please note that the grade 2.5 or better is required for some study programmes at some institutions) from the summer courses in Norwegian language offered by the University of Oslo; or · Test in Norwegian, higher level, the so called "Bergenstesten", with a minimum score of 450. Please note that some institutions/study programmes require a score of 500.
Students with little or no prior knowledge of Norwegian may acquire the necessary level in Norwegian by attending a one year language programme in Norwegian for foreigners. These are offered by the universities and some of the university colleges, e.g. Volda University College (www.hivolda.no) and Telemark University College (www.hit.no).
Students admitted on the "Quota programme" are granted scholarship for an extra year with Norwegian studies prior to entering the study programme at AAUC if they have no previous knowledge of Norwegian. AAUC does not offer study programme in Norwegian for foreigners, but we arrange for our quota students to attend the Norwegian language programme for foreigners at our neighbour university in Volda.
