Credit System and Degreees
At Norwegian institutions of higher education, courses are measured in 'studiepoeng', which equals the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), i.e. each semester has a workload of 30 'studiepoeng' or ECTS credits. Normally one academic year has two semesters, first semester runs from August to December (Autumn) and the second from January to June (Spring).
Grades: A Excellent B Very good C Good D Fair E Sufficient F Fail The grade Passed/Not Passed is used in some courses
Undergraduate degrees: 'Hoegskolekandidat' (College Candidate) is a final diploma/title awarded at the university colleges upon completion of a two year programme. 'Bachelor' is a final degree/diploma awarded at the university colleges upon completion of a three year programme. 'Candidatus magisterii' (cand. mag.) is an undergraduate degree offered by universities and colleges after 4 years of study and requires normally 240 ECTS credits. A cand. mag. degree may (at least) be considered equivalent to a bachelor honours degree.
Graduate degrees (not offered at AAUC): Graduate degrees are awarded by the universities and some of the university colleges and will normally be obtained upon completion of approximately two additional years of study beyond the bachelor or cand. mag. degree. These degrees include independent research and a thesis.
Foreigners who have completed university studies in their home countries may apply to have these studies evaluated for possible credit within the Norwegian degree system. The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT) facilitates and coordinates the evaluation of individual applications for recognition of foreign credentials.
Diploma Supplement Diploma Supplement (DS) is an international document provided with a diploma to give a detailed description of the qualifications attained by a candidate. It does not replace the diploma, but supplements it.
At AAUC, all candidates who complete a study programme of at least 60 ECTS credits receive a DS in English with their final diploma. The DS is free of charge. See more information about DS here: www.nokut.no
