Departments

Department of General Science
The Department of General Science provides teaching in basic subjects at the Faculty of Technology. The department is also responsible for teaching in preliminary courses which enable potential students to attend studies in engineering at Sør-Trøndelag University College.

Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Technology
The Department of Chemical Engineering is the largest of its kind in Norway, though there are no more than around 150 students at the department. Consequently, this ensures close and good relations between the teaching staff and students. The department's well educated academic staff maintains good relations with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), research institutions and local companies, thus making the department able to participate actively in projects within further education, research and development and in projects managed by public and private companies.

Department of Civil Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering provides four specialisation streams in the third year, i.e. Construction Engineering, Building Engineering, Structural Design and Technical Planning.

The department has laboratories with a wide range of equipment and instruments and a large number of PCs and workstations that are used as an integrated part of many courses.

Student intake
The department's annual intake is approximately 70 students for the three-year engineering course. Successful completion of the three-year course makes possible entry into the fourth year of the 5 year engineering degree course at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Students leaving with a full set of pass results are presented with a Bachelor diploma and a certificate listing all grades obtained during the course. They can also use the Norwegian title "Høgskoleingeniør".

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
The Department of Electrical Engineering offers four specialisation streams. You can learn about robotics, electrical machines, integrated circuits, microprocessor programming, data processing, satellite communication and much more.

The department's staff combines commercial and research experience with a high level of academic expertise. The department has a large number of laboratories with a wide range of equipment and instruments. There are a large number of PCs and workstations available, which are used as an integrated part of many courses.

Though, the study of electrical engineering does not need to be 100% academic. There is a student radio club and an electronics group; the department has an "Electro-forum" in which guest speakers from industry and commerce give informal presentations of relevant aspects of their organisation's activities, products etc.; and last -but not least- via the department's local data net and Internet students and staff are able to obtain information and programmes from databases all over the world and communicate worldwide with other students and engineers via E-mail, newsgroups etc.

Student intake
The department admits approximately 120 student per year to the three-year engineering programmes, and 30 students to the two-year engineering programmes. (see below).

Department of Mechanical/Logistical Engineering
The Department of Mechanical and Logistical Engineering offers five 2-year and 3-year Bachelor programmes in engineering.
