English and American Literature and Culture
English and American literature and culture.
I received my PhD in English at Tufts University and have been working as Assoc. Profess of English at HiST since August 2010. My dissertation, "Shakespeare and Cavendish: Engendering the Early Modern English Utopia" explored the development of utopianism and utopic themes through the early modern in the works of William Shakespeare and Margaret Cavendish.
I have varied research interests but generally consider aspects of gender in utopia from its earliest expressions in early modern literature to its contemporary incarnations in science fiction and fantasy. I am currently working on several articles on Cavendish and Shakespeare.
My article, "A Utopia of Words: Doctor Who, Shakespeare, and the Gendering of Utopia," appeared in The Language of Doctor Who: From Shakespeare to Alien Tongues, a collection published by Rowman & Littlefield in May 2014.
My article "Shakespeare's Presence and Cavendish's Absence in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" has just appeared in the Journal Shakespeare.11.1 (May 2015) DOI:10.1080/17450918.2015.1012553
