Open your IT user account
New students must activate their own IT user account and receive a userid and password in order to gain access to the IT services.
Keep your password secret, never let anyone see it.
Userid and password
All students at Telemark University College (HiT) must have a user identification (userid) and a password in order to access the IT services.
Your student number (6 digits) is your userid. You may specify your own password when you activate your IT user account (see below). You will find your student number on the giro for the semester fee.
One password for all IT services
Keep your password secret. If anyone learns your password, they may act on your account in the IT systems, causing problems for you and for others.
The password must consist of at least 6 characters, both letters and digits N.B. Only small letters. Never use names and known words as passwords as these may easily be guessed.
Memorize your password and never show it to others.
How do I get a userid and password?
All students, campus and remote, must have a userid and password for accessing the college's IT services.
To open your user account and set your password, you must know your social security number (11 digits) and your 6-digit student number (if your student number is 5 digits only, please add a zero as the first digit).

Please decide on a good password before you start this process (this will help you to remember it...). Note: At least 6 digits, a combination of letters, numbers, no guessable names or words. You must also read and accept the rules for IT users at Telemark University Collegeand confirm that you know the consequences of breaking the rules.
Forgotten your password?
If you have forgotten your password, get in touch with the local IT support group. There you must show some form of identification, e.g. your student card, driving licence or bank card. You will then either be given a new password or you will be allowed to type it in yourself on the IT support group's computer.
Off-campus students:
Off-campus students unable to drop by the local IT support group may obtain a new password in one of two ways:
1. Call the college switchboard at +47 35 02 62 00 between 0900 and 1500 (norwegian time), inform them you wish to change your password and ask for the IT services group. Note that he IT services group will ask you one or more questions to ascertain your identity.
2. Or, send an email to passord@hit.no , stating why you need a new password and quoting your student number, full name and mobile cell phone number. The IT services group will either cross reference this information against MSTAS/Arena or www.telefonkatalogen.no. Alternatively, they will call you back and ask you one or more questions to ascertain your identity. A new password will be sent by SMS. Make sure to quote country codes etc. (unless your mobile phone is registered with a norwegian phone company).
