This programme provides an insight into the structure and functions of the English language, and how this may be utilised in teaching English. There is also an emphasis on literature, and British and American society and culture. The main subject areas are:
• Practical language use
• British and American society and culture
• Literature
• Subject didactics, methodolgy, teaching practice
The programme is built on the principle that students will cooperate both socially and academically, and this assumes that studenst will attend teaching and do the necessary preparation. Teaching is in the form of lectures, discussion groups and tutorials. Success will be achieved by hard work and studying.
Study Tour: The programme includes an obligatory study tour to either London (approx. NOK 7300 - travel, hotel, food) or Washington DC (approx. NOK7700 - travel, hotel, food). In addition to reinforcing the oral aspects, the trip will also reinforce the courses in cultural landscape, literature and methods. The students will complete a teaching plan based on the study tour, aspects of which can be included via an oral examination. Students will only be granted exemption from the study tour if they have weighty grounds for this. These students will have to complete the teaching plan by agreement with a member of staff.
