Content:
In this programme, we examine different growth environments, socialisation conditions and marginalisation factors. Attention is directed towards preventative work in relation to children and adolescents in general, and with respect to vulnerable groups of children and adolescents. The programme also directs attention to mental health, nutrition, and identity development. Scientific theory and research methods are emphasised, both to develop such competence and to cultivate a critical attitude toward accepted “facts”. The programme has the following main themes: Family, growth conditions and socialisation, research methods and research ethics.
Teaching and learning methods:
The Master’s programme emphasises independence and participation. The instruction will alternate between lectures, seminars and group work. Dialogue, discussion and the opportunity to use one’s personal experiences are important. The students will receive individual guidance in working with their Master’s thesis.
How may this programme be used?
A primary objective of this Master’s programme is to develop competence in understanding and interpreting children and adolescents on the basis of their psychosocial and cultural contexts. This will contribute to increased insight in meeting the new and constantly shifting challenges which children and adolescents may encounter. The programme will qualify students for work within the public, private and voluntary sectors as well as within fields such as teaching, planning and development work and research and development.
