General admission requirements
Content:
Currently, up to 45 ECTS are offered, but plans exist to expand the programme to 60 ECTS. Students must therefore take 15 ECTS in addition to Spanish in order to achieve a full year’s study. The programme is designed to provide a basic understanding of the Spanish language and the social conditions, history and culture of the Spanish-speaking countries. In addition, a subject didactic element will be included in the instruction, so that this information can be utilised in teaching Spanish in primary and lower secondary schools.
Course units:
• Introduction to Spanish 15 ECTS • Spanish Language and Culture I 15 ECTS • Spanish Language and Culture II 15 ECTS
Teaching and learning methods:
The introductory course unit requires no previous knowledge of Spanish, but the two subsequent courses units require either the introductory course unit, B- or C-language levels in Spanish from the upper secondary school, or the equivalent. Lectures, seminars and exercises in the language laboratory. Participation in seminars is obligatory. Students will be expected to show personal initiative and participate actively in the classes. In the introductory course unit, Norwegian will be used as an auxiliary language, but in the following course units, the instruction will be primarily in Spanish.
Completed 30 ECTS in addition to the introduction course unit provides teaching competence for Spanish at the primary and lower secondary levels. The programme may also be used as a basis for more advanced studies in Spanish language and culture. The course units may also be included in a Bachelor degree in language and literature at Telemark University College, or other Bachelor degrees.
