This programme provides basic skills in visual communication and design. Creative work and practical problem solving are important elements. Students will learn skills in aesthetic work, and acquire knowledge of product development and aesthetic theory. Knowledge of communication, art and design-history will provide students with a basis for reflection and the ability to impart such knowledge to others; students will also gain a critical perspective of their own work. The first year of study is common to all students. During the course of the second year, greater emphasis will be placed on individual choices. During the third year, students will create their own subject profile by selecting specialised courses.

Theory and reflection will be related to the students’ own original work through supervised workshop sessions. The programme consists of lectures, demonstrations, seminars, group work, project work and visual presentations. The arrangement of exhibitions and other cultural initiatives in schools and the local community will form an integral part of the programme. Contact will be made with relevant companies and workshops in connection with practical exercises and work experience.
The programme provides a good basis for the graduate’s own creative work, product development, the facilitation of knowledge in public and private institutions, and consultation services where there is a requirement for aesthetic competence. If graduates have also completed a postgraduate teaching programme they will be qualified to teach in schools. The programme also provides qualification for admission to MA Art and Design Education.
