A foundation course (60 ECTS) in the humanities or social sciences from another university college, or one year’s study abroad may also provide an alternative for the third year of study.

Year 3
For the third year of study, students may study another programme at Telemark University College or at another educational institution in Norway or abroad.

Teaching and learning methods:

More than half of the study time during the first two years will be spent in the workshops. It is also assumed that students will spend time working in the workshops during periods not designated in the timetable. The study-year is divided into project periods.

Careers / further study:

Several of the graduates from the Department of Folk Culture at Rauland are now employed in teaching positions in various kinds of schools, and some combine this with careers in the field of the Arts. Depending on which specialisation was chosen as part of their degree, graduates may find careers as mediators in the cultural sector, folk music curators or handicraft consultants etc. The programme gives access to the international network of folk musicians and folk artists and may open for future careers. This programme may be combined with other higher-education programmes within the cultural sphere, or form a part of the 4-year General Teacher Education and a BA degree. The programme qualifies for admission to MA Traditional Norwegian Arts.
