Nursing science, natural sciences and social science all contribute to the nurse’s knowledge. The programme consists of five main courses which are emphasised to varying degrees over the course of the programme: scientific foundations of nursing, nursing and vocational foundations, medical and natural science topics, social science topics and practice. There are periods of practical work experience which are pursued in Telemark. There is an emphasis on internationalisation and intercultural understanding. In the 2nd and 3rd years the practical work experience may be pursued abroad. The department has good contacts in Europe, USA and Africa.

Teaching methods, part time:

The flexible part time nursing training over four years is based on the same syllabus as the full time programme. Part time students cover the same material, but the means of assessment differ. The part time programme relies to a greater extent on the use of the Internet, video-conferencing and other forms of IT. The programme has its own timetable and plan for teaching and assessment.
