This is a 4-year programme for teacher education. It is based on various subjects and study units which each count for 30 ECTS. The first three years consist of obligatory subjects such as Norwegian, pedagogy, arts and crafts, drama and music. In the third and fourth years, students may choose subjects and specialised courses reflecting their personal interests. The elective subjects in the third year are: food and health, physical education or arts and crafts, with transition to Master's programme. The selection of specialised subjects available in the fourth year depends on the number of applications, but may include: Norwegian, arts and crafts, music, drama, physical education, food and health and various pedagogical courses. The programme offers students a professional breadth with specialisation in the arts, an interdisciplinary perspective and project work, and emphasises aesthetic learning processes.

In addition, there will be teaching practice in connection with voluntary cultural work in, for example, music and cultural schools.
Students who successfully complete this course will be qualified to teach at all levels in primary and lower secondary schools. Students will have acquired a broader competence than other subject teachers, and thus be well equipped to make significant contributions to interdisciplinary and project work. Students will also have acquired competence in the teaching of basic reading and writing skills, and will be qualified to teach in art, music and cultural schools. The programme may also serve as qualification for enrolment in the Master’s programme, depending upon which subjects the students have chosen.
