This is a general course for students who have work experience, but who do not meet the academic requirements to apply for engineering courses. This course does not fulfil the general requirements for entrance to Norwegian university colleges/universities.
The course requires both hard work and motivation. It includes the following subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, Norwegian, English and social studies. Mathematics, physics and chemistry provide background for engineering studies, while Norwegian and English have a practical perspective.
The lessons in scientific subjects are a combination of lectures and group work. The other subjects are mainly based on classroom instruction. Most subjects have a duration of two semesters. All of the subjects are graded. Marks are based on tests, submissions, laboratory reports and final examinations.
The course fulfils the admission requirements for application to engineering programmes and maritime programmes at university colleges in Norway. Students who pass the course may compete for admission to engineering courses via a special quota for preporatory course students. Only full-time students are considered for admission according to this quota system. This means they must have attended courses for at least 30 hours per week. Students who do not fulfil this requirement must compete for admission under general admissions requirements.
