Course Objectives
In this Main Course I students should become aware of their role as students, acquire relevant academic skills, learn to cooperate in groups and become familiar with the professional practices in the field of child welfare. Students will gain an understanding of the normal development of children and adolescents; they will understand different forms of disability based on the Evolutionary Ecology Model, i.e. within the context of the child’s upbringing environment. This will be related to the ability to observe, identify and analyse possible indicators of risk behaviour and/or disability.
Further, students should acquire a basic understanding of the social framework conditions that children and adolescents, families and guardians and the social network find themselves in, and will consider these conditions in relation to relevant health and socio-political issues. The main course aims to make the students more familiar with social-pedagogical work in relation to individuals, groups and society, and to develop their understanding of the methodological use of activities in this work. Also, the course will provide students with fundamental knowledge about practical child welfare in local, regional and national public services.
