Lectures. Calculation exercises. Computer exercises. Semester assignments (primarily laboratory assignments).

Course Description

Dynamic systems theory, including simple mathematical modelling, use of Laplace transformation for the calculation of time response (solving differential equations), development of transfer function models, analysis of dynamics, as well as frequency response. The principle aspects regarding the use of computers for measurement, management and regulation. Sampling of measurement signals. Filtering of measurement signals. Gate opening techniques

Data communication, including field bus. Continuous regulation for testing and development (PID regulation). Combinatoric, and sequential control. Simulation of control and regulation systems for testing and development. Automation technology, including DCS (distributed control systems), PLS (programmable logic control systems) and PAC (programmable automation controllers). Automation structures in industry. Documentation of automation systems.

Assessment Methods

A written examination which counts for 70% and several semester assignments with report and presentation which count for 30% of the final grade. Students must achieve better than F in both the final examination and the semester assignments in order to receive a final passing mark.
