One semester
Prerequisites
According to admission requirements
Course Objectives
To give the students basic knowledge of process technology. The course gives an overview of thermodynamics, separation processes (unit operations) and chemical reaction engineering.
Learning Methods
Lectures with exercises based on Matlab with MathWorks’ Optimization Toolbox, TOMLAB, or similar tools. Group projects where a basic predictive controller is to be implemented using Matlab or a similar tool, and where the algorithm is coupled to a practical process and the system is to be controlled.
Course Description
The course consists of two main parts:
Thermodynamics, unit operations in the fields of heat transfer and fluid dynamics. Separation processes and chemical reaction engineering. This part of the course covers modellings of chemical reactors, as well as relevant separation processes (like evaporation, distillation and membrane technology).
Assessment Methods
Mandatory test and hand in exercise weigh 20% each. Final examination weigh 60%. No study aids permitted, except for any type of handheld calculator.
