N0403 Process technology with control engineering project

Prerequisites

A basic course in control engineering, taken previously or in the same semester

Course Objectives

To get basic knowledges about process unit operations, and get knowledge and practical skills in using a computer for modelling, simulation and control of physical processes

Learning Methods

Lectures. Theoretical and practical exercises. Project work in groups.

Course Description

Process technolgy (3 credits): Unit operations. Process and instrumentation diagrams. Process equipment. Mass and energy flow. The basis for control of chemical and mechanical processes, cause and effects. Disturbances. Control engineering project (6 credits): Using a computer for mathematical modelling, simulation and control. The contents of this project is equal to the contents of tje course E0404 Project: Control system.

Assessment Methods

Process technolgy (33%): Part evaluation counting 40% (of the 33% part) and a written exam counting 60% (of the 33% part). The part evaluation contains compulsory exercises and laboratory work. Control engineering project (67%): Individual written part exam counting 30% (of the 67% part). Project group work with common grading counting 70% (of the 67% part).
