One semester
Prerequisites
Mathematical methods I
Course Objectives
The objective of the course is to give the students basic knowledge in Engineering Mechanics consisting of equilibrium mechanics and strength of materials as a basis for Static's and Construction subjects at a later stage in their studies.
Learning Methods
Lectures, supervised problem solving and exercises.
Course Description
The course covers, both Static I and Mechanics of Materials and consists of the following topics:
Forces, moment, equilibrium mechanics, diagrams for moment shearing and axial forces. Beams, trusses, frames, girders and ropes. Stress and strain, Hook's Law, distribution of stress, Mohr's Circle.
Assessment Methods
3 individual, written examinations during the semester count 40% and a final written examination counts 60% of the final grade.
