One semester
Prerequisites
Engineering Mechanics
Course Objectives
The aim of the course is to give the students a basis, for the choice of static system, and to be able to perform, the necessary calculations, on such a system.
Learning Methods
Lectures, supervised problem solving and exercises.
Course Description
The course consists of following topics:
1. Principles of virtual work: virtual displacements and virtual forces.
2. Displacements.
3. Force method for statically indeterminate structures.
4. Displacement methods, for statically indeterminate structures. specially, Cross method.
5. Plastic yield theory for beams and frames.
6. Fracture and buckling calculations of beams and frames, 2nd order theory.
Assessment Methods
3 individual, written examinations during the semester counts 45% and a mandatory project work in student group counts 55% of the final grade.
